For the visitor
Kõrvemaa Landscape Reserve was founded with the purpose of maintaining the characteristic landscapes, communities and habitats of the area, preserving the diversity of the biota, including protected species. There are large bogs and kames and eskers reminiscent of the Ice Age in Kõrvemaa. It is nice to hike on the alternating landscape.
The area is rich in protected plants (including tens of orchid species), but the sparsely populated area is also a good nesting spot for the following rare bird species: golden eagle, lesser spotted eagle and black stork. The museum of A. H. Tammsaare in Vargamäe and the Simisalu Nature House that is open on demand are located in the reserve.
