For the visitor

Põhja-Kõrvemaa is an area in Harju County with large bogs and forests, numerous deep freshwater lakes. The area has been populated sparsely throughout time, the signs of human activity are marginal. There are three nature trails with information boards and a hiking trail that covers almost all of the reserve for learning about the natural values of the reserve. Visitation opportunities

There are three nature trails and one hiking trail in the reserve.

Paukjärve nature trail

The length of the circular trail with information boards is 5 km. The trail starts from the parking lot in Kaksiksild and passes through the different forests, over drumlins and through valleys. There are the deep and beautiful lakes of Kaasikjärv, Linajärv and Ümarjärv (Lake Konsul) by the trail. There is an observation tower with a height of 8.5 metres on top of the esker ridge that is next to Lake Paukjärv. The tower offers gorgeous views of Lake Paukjärv and the swamp of Kõnnu Suursoo that are located in the valley. Next, the trail goes around Lake Paukjärv and then again through the forests until the River Soodla. The car can be left at the parking lot in Kaksiksild.

Jussi nature trail

The length of the circular trail with information boards is 8 km. The trail starts from the parking lot in Koersild where one can leave their car. The trail passes through the unique Jussi heather heath that has formed from the fires caused by the Soviet army and around the lakes of Jussi (lakes Linajärv, Kõverjärv, Pikkjärv, Suurjärv, Väinjärv). The trail turns back from the latter and there is also Lake Mustjärv on the path.

Uuejärve nature trail

The length of the circular trail with information boards is 6 km. The trail starts from the parking lot by the Uuejärve road at the kilometre marker 32 on Piibe road. The trail passes through different forest types, through the homestead of Laudissalu and ends up on the narrow esker of Vargamäe-Sillaotsa located on the edge of Laudissalu swamp. The way back passes the changeable kame landscape.

Järvi Pikkjärve-Aegviidu hiking trail (27 km)

The hiking trail starts from Lake Järvi Pikkjärv in the Põhja-Kõrvemaa Nature Reserve and passes through the varied Kõrvemaa nature: the swamp of Kõnnu Suursoo, eskers, kames, beautiful Metstoa and Jussi lakes, different forest communities. The hiking trail ends at the nature house of the State Forest Management Centre in Aegviidu.
