Instructions for visitors
  • Try not to leave any traces in nature.
  • Picking berries, mushrooms and other forest by-products is permitted throughout the protected area, except during a ban of movement in the special management zones of Sõmeru and Heinasoo.
  • Follow the freedom to roam when in the natural environment.
  • Ask the owner’s permission to be on marked/fenced private land.
  • Camping is permitted in the protected area. Making a fire in a limited management zone on private land is allowed with the permission of the owner.
  • Keep your dog on a leash. 
  • Driving a vehicle or an off-road vehicle is permitted on designated roads. 
  • Fishing is permitted. 
  • Movement in the special management zone of Sõmeru is prohibited from 15 March to 31 August and in the special management zone of Heinasoo outside the river and its shore path from 15 April to 14 July.
  • It is permitted to drive a floating craft on the protected area’s bodies of water, except in the special management zone of Heinasoo from 15 April to 14 July.
  • Hunting is permitted, except in the special management zone of Sõmeru from 15 March to 31 August and in the special management zone of Heinasoo from 15 April to 14 July.
  • Additional feeding of wild game is prohibited without the permission of the manager of the protected area.
  • Organisation of public events with up to 50 participants in locations not intended for this purpose is permitted in a limited management zone. Public events with more than 50 participants require the permission of the Estonian Environmental Board.
  • Organisation of public events with up to 50 participants in locations intended for this purpose is permitted in a special management zone. Public events with more than 50 participants and public events in locations not intended for this purpose require the permission of the Estonian Environmental Board.
  • When organising any activities, make sure to read the rules of conservation.
